X-Men: Evolution tho

animaliachordata:

I feel like people are forgetting how great this show is so I want to remind you all that:

  • Mystique was literally every new character and every other villain
  • I’m not kidding. New student? Mystique. The principal? Mystique. That Scottish punk rocker? Mystique.
  • That bird? Also Mystique. If someone is not a main character then they are Mystique.
  • Sometimes if someone is a main character they are still Mystique, like the episode where it turns out that Professor X was Mystique for the whole season
  • Magneto menacingly twirls paperclips in the air in like half the scenes
  • Magneto refuses to stand and instead floats at all times, even if it’s just an inch above the ground
  • Magneto is only shown as a helmet hiding in the shadows for the entire first season
  • Storm is boss as hell and was worshiped as a goddess when she was younger
  • There was an episode where all of the girls lowkey started a gang and tore shit up and kicked the asses of villains more effectively than the entire X-team did for the whole series???
  • Wolverine and Sabretooth fought every time they saw each other. In the mall? On top of a parking garage? While on motorcyles? Fight WITH THE MOTORCYCLES? Like they could literally smell one another miles away and they would run through the whole city just to fight one another, it’s ridiculous
  • The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants crashed a high school soccer game once
  • Everyone in the Brotherhood is a sassy asshole and I love it, esp Quicksilver
  • Professor X is completely unfit to supervise children but people keep giving him their children to supervise
  • Including his own son, whom he, predictably, also failed to supervise
  • There was an episode where hunters caught Beast because they thought he was Bigfoot
  • Right before Jean was going to confess her ~feelings~ to Scott Mystique fucking kidnaps him and throws him to wolves in the desert lol. Professor X also refused to believe another fucking telepath when she said Scott was in danger
  • One of the characters joins a cabal of sewer mutants after he is disfigured by drinking soda that functions as mutant poison
  • Magneto had some secret headquarters at a ski resort
  • Blob knows how to make radish roses
  • The show is surprisingly positive and has great female characters and also some really good commentary about marginalized groups???
  • It’s also really true to the comics and does a lot of great side characters justice
  • Wolverine is like two feet tall in the show, just like in the comics, he’s a great angry munchkin tbh

I just woke up from a dream where I was pregnant, and ETD and I were having a gender reveal party hosted by Morticia Addams cause in my dream Morticia and I were besties and she kept giving me pretty solid advice on raising children.

And you know that thing people do where they cut into the cake and it reveals the gender? Well, we had a cake, but the outside frosting was black, like, void black with the occasional glimmer of starlight, and when the time came to cut the cake Gomez handed me a sword and I stabbed it and a rainbow of holographic glitter spilled everywhere and bats flew up into the night and all the “real” people in the dream were horrified at the mess and trying to escape, but Morticia just sipped her tea, letting the glitter rise around her ankles as it continued to spew forth from the void cake and just looked at me like “Congratulations, it’s a baby, probably. Cake?” and my happiness/terror at the ambiguity of that sentence straight up woke me up out of a dead sleep and now I’m telling all of you before I forget.

Cause that dream was awesome.

If I ever become a history teacher, I’m going to write “gullible” on the ceiling.
Then in the middle of class, I’ll announce, “There’s ‘gullible’ written on the ceiling.”
After the whole look vs. not look shenanigan occurs, I shall then slam my books on my desk, prop myself up, lean forward and say, “Welcome to history. Your first lesson? Check your facts for yourself.”

chaotic evil

chaotic learning

I used to tell my 7th grade class a pack of lies at the beginning of the year. They would nod and pretend they knew about it. Then I would say, “Did you know everything I just told you was a lie and you believed it because you don’t know history and tend to believe authority figures?” I still have students in their 20s remind me of how traumatized they were by a teacher lying to them and that they always double check everything.

“the Bible says homosexuality is a sin” well the Bible also has a lot of sexism, rape, incest, violence and a lot of contradictory messages in general because it was written by people and people have agendas

I don’t really think that God even has the time to care about if people are gay like if he’s got a whole world to run there are more important things anyway

And if God is love, he’s not just loving me if I am what he wants; he’s loving me as the person he made me to be, which is a queer person

You can’t say “I love you, and I made you gay but I’m sending you to hell you awful sinner” my dude that doesn’t make sense it’s not like hell has a low population is it

The god I believe in loves queer people because that’s how he made us

the bible doesn’t condemn homosexuality anyway. It’s content taken out of context and misinterpreted over hundreds of years of translations, re-translations, and mis-translations.

Hell, in Kenneth Davis’s Don’t Know Much About The Bible, there’s a passage that absolutely blows my mind and proves just how much we can misinterpret with simple translation mistakes:

“In researching the world’s oldest city, for instance, I learned that Joshua’s Jericho is one of the oldest human settlements. It also lies on a major earthquake zone. Could that simple fact of geology have had anything to do with those famous walls tumbling down? Then I discovered that Moses and the tribes of Israel never crossed the Red Sea but escaped from Pharaoh and his chariots across the Sea of Reeds, an uncertain designation which might be one of several Egyptian lakes or a marshy section of the Nile Delta. This mistranslation crept into the Greek Septuagint version and was uncovered by modern scholars with access to old Hebrew manuscripts.”

The bible is one long-ass game of telephone, whispered around the world in dozens if not hundreds of languages, for thousands of years. I have a hard time knowing what my grandpa is talking about, when he starts going on about the technology or practices of his youth, and that was only about 80 years ago, in the same country and in the same language as me. So why every Joe on the streets thinks they can take one or two verses, completely out of context and probably mis-translated several times to boot, and use it to spout propaganda and hatred for an entire group of people will forever be beyond me.

You’re all valid, and frankly, if there is a ‘loving God,’ then that God will be happy to see you happy. Seriously.

I needed that. Thank you.

The Bible wasn’t faxed down from the sky, people, it’s been compiled and formulated for hundreds of years until it became what it is today. And yes, misinterpreted by whoever with whatever agenda-of-the-day.

And hypocrites always stick to the word and not the spirit of any religion: to love, to help, to respect, to protect, and to strive to make the world a better place.

why are star wars planets more boring than earth and our solar system like sure we’ve seen desert, snow, diff types of forest, beach, lava, rain, but like…

rainbow mountains (peru)

red soil (canada/PEI)

rings (saturn’s if they were on earth)

bioluminescent waves

northern lights (canada)

salt flats (bolivia, where they filmed crait but did NOTHING COOL WITH IT except red dust?? like??? come ON)

and cool fauna like the touch me not or like, you know, the venus flytrap.. and don’t get me started on BUGS like… we have bugs cooler than sw aliens

BASICALLY like???? come on star wars you had one (1) job where are the cool alien species

I KNOW!! I did a report on filming locations in Star Wars last year and just made a list of places that looked so surreal they could make a convincing other planet. You covered some on my list but if I could just add a couple more:

Tsingy di Bemaraha, Madagascar

Zhangye Danxia, China (similar to the Rainbow Mountains in terms of appearance)

Chocolate Hills, Philippines

Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

So many missed opportunities with cool ass things on Earth, Lucasfilms smh…

Earth is effing amazing!

Quebrada de Humahuaca, Argentina

Lake Retba, Senegal

Tepui, Venezuela

Tianzi Mountains, China

these would make amazing Star Wars planets OR fantasy material:

Tsingy du Bemaraha, Madagascar again (but a different part)

(those are razor-sharp, if you were wondering. very little of this area has been explored because YIKES)

Lake Natron, Tanzania

(looks cool, but is alkaline enough to Kill Your Shit)

Lake Baikal, Russia

(the deepest lake in the world, seriously)

and I’ll wrap it up with Son Doong Cave, Vietnam, the largest cave in the entire world.

it puts anything Dagobah has to offer to absolute shame:

(seriously, the largest chamber is 660 feet high. you could jam a fucking skyscraper in there and still lose it)

anyway I really like caves thanks for coming to my ted talk
